Courts are ruling. Governments are legislating. Medical boards are taking notice. None of it moves fast enough for the child in front of you today. This talk does.
Jeff Mortensen brings 20 years in the eye care industry to this conversation — getting new vision-screening technology into the hands of front-line staff at PediaVision, Welch Allyn, and Rebion, replacing a subjective, century-old paper eye chart with a faster, more objective way to screen children for vision issues. He currently serves on the Board of Governors of Preserve Vision Florida and the Foundation Advisory Board of the Children's Eye Foundation of AAPOS. He is not an eye doctor, a pediatrician, or a therapist — he's an advocate who believes in catching things early, applied here to something bigger than vision alone.
About the speaker →
Screen Time TalksA grounded look at where screen time actually stands right now: the real benefits kids get from thoughtful use, the risks that go beyond the obvious, why usage keeps climbing (it's engineered, not a willpower problem), and where children's vision fits into the picture. Each talk closes with the guardrails that make the most difference — realistic enough for a family, classroom, or clinic to actually keep.
Adapted for parents, schools, healthcare providers, outreach programs, and charitable organizations.
Screens are part of modern childhood, not an enemy to defeat. The goal isn't zero screen time — it's safe, deliberate use.
The same technology raising these concerns also builds real STEM skills and connects families across distance. The difference isn't the device — it's the format.
Everyone's naming the problem. This is what actually helps.
The research is part of the talk — it's part of why this matters. But the goal isn't to alarm a room and walk away. It's to leave every attendee with a short list of habits they can start using that same day.
Take It With YouA practical guide for parents, educators, and healthcare providers — covering the same habits, safety layers, and platform-by-platform reality check from the talk, plus Your Digital Story, a simple exercise for building an intentional online identity — all in one place to take home.
